19 of Medvedev's 21 victories have been earned on hard courts

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his initial trophy for 882 days with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The Russian, a former number one, has experienced a difficult period, winning just a single victory at the major tournaments and undergoing a setback at the New York tournament.

His inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serve in particular - led to him dropping out of the top ten and eventually separating with long-time trainer his previous coach.

Currently training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has steadily improved in the recent weeks - climaxing in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This marks the player's maiden trophy after the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hardcourt since spring of 2023.

Success also signifies Medvedev has secured 21 titles at twenty-one different competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a tournament with my children simultaneously, so to get a title is especially meaningful," commented ranked player Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my second daughter her name, because the maiden victory I won when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had been defeated in his previous six title deciders, featuring in the German tournament earlier this year.

Medvedev's counter-punching play style and frequent emotional displays on the playing surface had led some to question if his skill to play at the elite level was concluded.

However the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to advance forward and play assertively, supported by an better service.

Medvedev recovered from a deficit in the first set against the challenging opponent, winning 4 of the last five exchanges to go ahead.

The competitors exchanged break points in the second set before Moutet, attempting for his maiden tour title, seized the initiative to force a decider.

The opponent defended 4 early-game chances in a tight deciding set before the champion broke to fifteen to serve for the match.

Appropriately, Medvedev secured victory with a point at the net, with his opponent incapable to handle a shot after over two and a half hours.
