Catherine's Yearly Festive Carol Concert Honours Charity Helpers
The Princess of Wales is hosting her annual Yuletide celebration at the iconic London venue, with a congregation comprising dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have helped their communities.
The large audience will listen to a mix of carols, music and readings from performers including award-winning actors.
Centred Around Compassion and Love
The focus of the concert, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on Friday, is kindness and showing love to others.
Among the guests will be Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose daughter died of a brain cancer, and who set up a charity, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to help households where there is a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.
"The time, care and compassion you give, often quietly and unspoken, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an profound impact to the well-being of people," Her Royal Highness stated in a message before the festive gathering.
Carefully Paced Reappearance
The Princess of Wales is continuing her own measured re-emergence to the public eye following her health challenges and treatment, in November making her initial major address in two years, in which she reflected on recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring".
Musical Talent and Access
Attendees entering the Abbey will enjoy performances from budding artists aided by the Future Talent organisation, set up with the help of the Duchess of Kent to widen access to musical tuition.
An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who is a trumpet player and is from Wales, has been helped by the organisation, with funding assisting with instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "incredible" to be performing at the evening's event.
"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," the musician remarked. She is now enrolled at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to hone their artistic talents.
A Family Affair
Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who performs on the brass instrument, will also be at the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.
Attending the service will be people from various age groups.
That will encompass young Saphia Turner, nine, honouree of a prize for youthful altruism, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to generate funds for local food charities.
Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts
The Abbey has been decorated with handcrafted festive wreaths, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett helping to make them.
Taking to the stage will be Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a nautical singing ensemble, Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "a dream come true."
This annual carol service will be broadcast on ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
